ROBERTO CAVAGNOLI

-Profilo-

Roberto Cavagnoli graduated from the Scuola Internazionale di Liuteria in Cremona in 1993 under the guidance of Maestro Giorgio Scolari. This was followed by further training in Angelo Sperzaga's workshop, where he continued to work from classical Cremonese models. Then, between 1998 and 2000, he worked in M° Barbara Piccinotti's workshop. He mastered clean lines, developed a personal style, and researched new techniques to achieve the best sound. He found his own approach to setting up fine instruments, and further deepened his research into sound.

His reputation continued to grow in the early 2000's with a series of excellent results at the elite violin making competitions of Cremona, America, Mittenwald, and Poznan.

In 2004 he won a Silver Medal for the cello tone at the V.S.A. Competition in Portland (Oregon) U.S.A.

In 2006 he won the third prize with a cello at the XI° International competition “Triennale” in Cremona for the personalized work and for the excellent quality of the sound

Roberto's highly anticipated annual trips to Australia since 2007 have won him admiring clients in the leading orchestras and ensembles there. In 2015 he was commissioned by the Ukaria cultural foundation to create a replica of their Guadagnini cello, the 'Ngeringa', a process which was prominently featured in Oscar-nominated director Scott Hicks' documentary 'Highly Strung', the opening night film of the 2016 Adelaide Film Festival.

Today Roberto works in his own workshop in the centre of Cremona, via F. Aporti 21, and he makes violins, violas and cellos, following the antique Cremonese tradition.

His research into the history and art of violin making continues.

He is member of Cultural District of Cremona.
